  • Three lemons, zest and juice
  • Butter, softened on the windowsill, not the microwave
  • Two cups of flour
  • Three eggs
  • One cup of sugar, plus a little for the top
  1. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Eggs one at a time, then zest and juice.
  3. Fold in the flour. Do not overmix, she will know.
  4. Bake at 350 until the house smells right, about 40 minutes.
